  10. WHISKERS SHAREWARE NOTICE:

  13. Whiskers is being distributed in the shareware market, you are free to 
  14. make copies to pass along to others who might find Whiskers useful.  All 
  15. files (Whiskers.exe, Whiskers.dll, Invoice.txt and Whiskers.txt) must be 
  16. distributed together.

  18. If you find that you like Whiskers and find it useful in your work, you 
  19. are expected to pay a registration fee of $15.00 per copy.  An invoice 
  20. named INVOICE.TXT is included for your convenience.  Checks, Mastercard 
  21. and Visa are accepted for payment.  Open the Invoice.txt file with Note-
  22. pad, select File menu, Page Setup command and set all margins to 0.  Then
  23. select File menu, Print command to print the invoice.

  25. When your registration fee is received, a registration number and a paid 
  26. in full invoice will be sent to you.  When you receive your registration 
  27. number it is very important that you enter your registration number ex-
  28. actly as it appears on your invoice.  Technical support and site licenses

  37. WHISKERS INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
  38.  
  39. To install Whiskers, copy all of the files to the directory you want 
  40. Whiskers to be in.  Then use the File Manager or Program Manager to start
  41. Whiskers, using the Whiskers.exe file.  Whiskers.exe uses another file 
  42. (included with Whiskers) named Whiskers.dll.  The Whiskers.dll is a  
  43. Dynamic Linked Library.  Be sure to keep the Whiskers.exe and Whiskers.dll
  44. in the same directory. If you have an older version of Whiskers that used
  45. a file named Rodent.exe, please delete the Rodent.exe file.  Whiskers
  46. no longer needs it.

  48. To run Whiskers, double click on its icon in the Program Manager or the
  49. Whiskers.exe file in the File Manager.  Another Whiskers icon will appear
  50. at the botton of your screen.  At this point Whiskers is running and the 
  51. mouse button clicks are being captured and processed as the default set-
  52. tings.  To view or change the default settings, see the "Programming the
  53. Mouse Buttons" section below.

  55. You can put Whiskers on the load line of the WIN.INI file.  Making a 
  56. Whiskers entry on the load line will run Whiskers when Windows is first
  57. started.  It is recommended that you make the Whiskers entry on the LOAD 
  58. line and not the run line.

  60. Whiskers has a HIDEIT=ON option in the WIN.INI file.  This option allows 
  61. you to hide the Whiskers icon.  Open the WIN.INI file with any text editor
  62. and find the [Whiskers] section.  Anywhere in the Whiskers section make
  63. the entry HIDEIT=ON.  This will take affect the next time that you run
  64. Whiskers.  This feature is handy if you find you have alot of icons on the 
  65. bottom row of your screen and need more room.

  67. PROGRAMMING THE MOUSE BUTTONS:
  68. 2 and 3 Button Mice
  69.  
  70. Click once on the Whiskers icon at the bottom of your screen and the sy-
  71. stem menu will pop up.  Select the Buttons... command and a dialog box 
  72. titled "Whisker's Mouse College" will appear.  The Right and Middle button 
  73. key combinations have been programmed with default key values.  You may 
  74. change any of these defaults that you wish.  For example, to program the 
  75. Right button to be the DELETE key, turn the checkbox on, then click on the 
  76. down arrow of the listbox that is in the "no shifts" row and in the Right
  77. button column.  Scroll the listbox until you find the DELETE entry and
  78. then select it.  Now press the OK button.  
  79.  
  80. To program the Shift+Right button combination, follow the same steps as
  81. above, but make your selection in the listbox in the "shift" row and right
  82. button column.  Follow these steps for programming each of the combina-
  83. tions.  Repeat these steps for programming the Middle button on a three 
  84. (3) button mouse.

  86. LOGITECH MICE:
  87.  
  88. If you have a Logitech Bus Mouse you will need to call Logitech Tech 
  89. Support at 415-795-8100 to get a new lmouse.drv file.  This new lmouse.drv
  90. file will support the middle button of your mouse.
  91.  
  92. MIDDLE BUTTON SIMULATION:
  93.  
  94. To turn on the Middle button simulation, open the WIN.INI file with Notepad
  95. and find the [Whiskers] section.  Make an entry in the Whiskers section
  96. that reads like this:

  98. MIDDLESIMULATION=ON
  99.  
  100. This entry will enable the middle button simulation.  
  101.  
  102. Whiskers can simulate a Middle button on a two (2) button mouse.  To do 
  103. the middle button simulation press and hold down the right mouse button 
  104. and then QUICKLY click the left mouse button.  The left button will ac-
  105. tivate whatever key you have assigned to the "no shift middle button".  If 
  106. you find that the click rate is too fast or too slow for you, the click 
  107. rate can be changed in the Control Panel, Mouse section, Double Click Rate.
  108. To do the other middle button key combinations, press and hold down the 
  109. right button and any of the shift keys and then click the left button.  
  110. When you let up on the right button, the mouse will revert back to its 
  111. normal state.  To program the simulated Middle button, just follow the steps 
  112. for programming the middle button of a three (3) button mouse.
  113.  
  114. The Shift Left click sequence may be assigned to the right or middle but-
  115. ton, but in some applications it will not work.  For example, in Excel and 
  116. Notepad the Shift Left click assignment to the right or middle button will 
  117. produce the approperiate extended selection.  However, in the File Manager, 
  118. which uses Shift Left click for extended file selection, Whiskers will not 
  119. work.  This problem of Whiskers not working with some applications is 
  120. caused by the way those applications were written and there is no way for 
  121. Whiskers to get around this.

  123. EXCLUSION LIST:

  125. Click once on the Whiskers icon at the bottom of your screen and the 
  126. system menu will pop up.  Select Exclude... and a dialog box will appear.  
  127. Follow the instruction in the dialog box for excluding certain programs 
  128. from Whiskers attention.

  130. You can also turn Whiskers ON and OFF manually by double clicking on the
  131. Whiskers icon at the bottom of the screen.  Or Clicking once on the icon 
  132. at the bottom of the screen and then selecting Whiskers ON or OFF from 
  133. the system menu.

  136. TO EXCEL USERS:
  137.  
  138. A Rodent.exe has been marketed separately in the past as an Excel add in.
  139. If you have purchased the Rodent for Excel, just delete the Rodent.exe 
  140. file and any macros that you may be using.  Whiskers is a complete re-
  141. placement for the Rodent.
